First Meeting

Our first meeting is a chance to meet face-to-face and begin the process of discovery. We will discuss your current financial situation and needs, as well as expectations for your investment portfolio and the advising team. You will gain a better understanding of how our team works and the services we provide. 

Some of the expectations from you and us on your first meeting:

  • Investment portfolio minimum size is $250,000.  This enables us to focus on a smaller group of high net worth individuals and families to the benefit of our clients.  This is also the minimum for structuring a proper asset allocation.
  • WHERE: First meetings typically take place in a client meeting space on the 23rd floor of the Canaccord tower at Dunsmuir and Granville in Vancouver.  Alternate meeting locations can be discussed with the advisor.
  • WHAT TO BRING: Please bring all current investment and RRSP/RRIF account statements.  We cannot provide a proper assessment without knowing precisely what you own.
  • QUESTIONS:  You will have questions for us and we will have questions for you.  Examples:
  • What are your specific financial needs now and in retirement?
  • What are your sources of income now and in retirement?
  • Do you have tax concerns? 
  • What are the challenges you see with your portfolio right now?
  • What is your performance expectation and your tolerance for risk?

This first meeting is designed to take place in about an hour.  We will then put together a comprehensive investment strategy for our next meeting.



Second Meeting – Investment Review and Strategy

At our second meeting, we will review your portfolio with you in specific detail and advise on the best investment strategies to meet your objectives.  This is an individualized strategy that will take into account current market conditions and comprehensive asset allocation

We will discuss the investment recommendations and answer any questions.  If we agree that we have established cohesive working relationship, the accounts can be opened.


Account Opening

A simple administrative process that is handled from our office.  We cover your general information and will require a photocopy of photo I.D. for security purposes.  Account transfers from other institutions are handled from our end. 


Portfolio Management 

Once we have set up the accounts we can begin to implement the investment strategy.  Recommendations are made on an ongoing basis.  We do not believe your portfolio is well served by a passive buy-and-hold approach.  Investments are chosen according to your portfolio parameters in conjunction with market opportunities. 

You can expect to hear from us when opportunities for change arise.  You can also expect an annual review of your portfolio in comparison with the benchmark indices for each asset class.  We do not typically schedule regular phone calls and we find that we speak to our clients on an ongoing and as needed basis.  At the beginning, more contact is generally the norm as money arrives and investments are chosen.  Once set up, the portfolio is monitored and contact is made to discuss pertinent issues within the portfolio.

Our door/phone/email is always open to you.  You can contact us with any questions, ideas or concerns at any time.  Our team will handle your administrative needs while the advisors will address your investment queries.  We will always return your calls or emails within a day.
